Parallels Desktop, BootCamp, dan VMware. Tools Dualisme Macintosh. Who's The Best?

It’s run as well as in Windows.

  1. Start the Terminal app (Applications menu -> Accessories -> Terminal)
  2. Ketik tar xvfz /media/cdrom0/VMwareTools-e.x.p-51348.tar.gz
  3. Ketik cd vmware-tools-distrib
  4. Ketik sudo ./vmware-install.pl
  5. accept all defaults
  6. exit shell, restart Ubuntu

Overclocking Competition at Ratu Plaza.

Asap - asap dry ice bertebaran semakin memeriahkan suasana. Cukup menarik memang untuk sebuah kompetisi Overclocking.
I hope that next time the same event can grow bigger every year. I think it's show our creativity, Indonesian people

blackberrry 8800

If you weren't paying attention these last few months, RIM has been working on a new full-QWERTY BlackBerry, which is finally here: the 8800. Expect the 0.55-inch thick device on Cingular, er, AT&T, this month with quad-band EDGE (blah), a QVGA display, GPS, a microSD slot, Bluetooth 2.0, scroll ball, and a relatively uncomfortable looking keyboard. Still no word on price or an exact date, but we're sure you've got a pretty decent ballpark in your head for what this thing's going to run.

P.S. -What the hell is up with the WiFi indicator on screen? The press release and BlackBerry site certainly make no mention of it.

13 Vs 1

13 version of Windows Vista cannot take MacOS X Leopard down

Mac Starters Guide

Congratulations, you have a New Mac..
This post dedicated to all New Macintosh users. Thanks to macaholiq8

Priorities:

  • First thing to do is getting all available updates for your Mac by clicking on the blue apple icon on your menubar (on the upper left corner) and select "Software Update". This will keep your Mac up-to-date so make sure you download them all.

  • Installing/Removing applications: Installing any application on Mac is a matter of Drag/Drop, just double click on the disk image (*.dmg) file extention, a removable disk icon will show up under your computer icon on the desktop, open it and drag and drop the application icon into your "Applications" folder. If you want to remove an application simply drag that application icon and drop it in your Trash then empty it. If you want to remove every single relative file of that application, just search for the name of that application using Spotlight (on the upper right corner) and drag/drop all relative (*.plist) files into Trash then empty it.

  • System Preferences: Like Windows Control Panel; System Preferences is where you can control all preferences on your Mac. It doesn't take a computer scientist to figure it out so make sure you surf a little inside that menu to have an idea of what it contains.

  • Utilities: If you look around your Applications folder you'll find Utilities folder. This is where you can manage your Mac's utilities. The reason why I pointed this in priorities is because in Disk Utility you can mount/unmount, fix, remove, and repair disk permissions. It is recommended that you repair disk permissions each time you install/remove applications or get new updates from the net.

  • Must-have Applications:
  • Stuffit Expander: Stuffit expander will unpack almost all compressed files such as .sit, .sitx, .zip, .rar, and some others. Make sure you install it because you need it to uncompress some apps/files.

  • Real Player: To play Real media. (.rm/.ram)

  • Windows Media Player: To play Windows Media. (.wmv/.wma)

  • VLC -OR- Mplayer: Both are video players that can run almost any type of video except Real media. I personally prefer VLC over Mplayer. However, having them both won't hurt you.

  • Adium: Although there's a version of MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger for your Mac, they're not as good as Adium. Adium is by far the best instant messenger there is for your Mac because it can connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, and more! The only downside is that it doesn't support voice/video yet, but that's not a big deal.

  • Roxio Toast: The mighty CD/DVD burner for all Macs.

  • Azureus: The ideal torrent client for your Mac although it is not as good as xTorrent. The only downside for xTorrent is that it's a beta version.

  • Other useful Applications:
  • DivX Player: For playing DivX videos.

  • Web Browsers: FireFox, Opera, Flock.

  • GraphicConverter: If you miss MS Paint then this is a better alternative.

  • Sound Studio: For audio editing but it's not free. Too bad Audacity (free audio editor) won't work on Intel Macs since there's no binary version of it.

  • Audio Hijack: Audio recorder that will come in handy if you want to record (convert) Real Audio into any other type.

  • Path Finder: An innovative file browser and manager with powerful tools. Not free though.

  • Pref Setter: Useful utility application for editing (.plist) files.

  • TinkerTool: Another useful utility application that can expand your Finder options such as viewing hidden files (files that begin with dot "." are hidden on Macs) and lots more.

  • Wimpy FLV player: To play Flash (.flv) files.

  • VirtueDesktops: A great desktop expansion that allows you to flip between four different desktops. Keep using this one because soon it will be standard on OS X 10.5 Leopard.

  • WriteRoom: Cool looking text editor.

  • iSquint: Convert almost every type of video into .mp4 compatible with your iPod screen.

  • HandBrake: Rip full DVD movies directly into iPod compatible .mp4 mode.

  • PodTube: Downloads and converts .flv videos directly from YouTube. (ps: works only with YouTube).
For all other video sites simply follow these steps.

  • OmniDictionary: English to Multilingual (including Arabic) lexicons.

  • Dashboard; Useful Widgets:
  • iStat Pro: The ultimate system monitoring widget, consisting of nine sections which can be minimized, expanded, or closed.

  • Sing That iTune!: This widget displays the lyric for iTunes current track along with its artwork. The lyrics are saved in “Documents/Sing that iTune!” folder and you can also add your self-made lyrics in there. Sync the folder with iPod’s Notes folder to bring it. Option to save lyrics in music files is also available.

  • Amazon Album Art: Search for artwork for the currently playing track and import into iTunes with the click of a button.

  • Airport Radar: AirPort Radar is a free and convenient tool for quickly scanning the area for AirPort and other wireless networks.

  • Desksaver Plus: Run screen saver in your desktop background.

  • ABD Indicator: Adult Body Mass Indicator; Are you overweight, obese or maybe under weight? Find out for yourself with this helpful widget. This version has a smaller footprint and you can enter your height in inches and feet rather than all inches. Also includes metric units.

  • Gmail & Blogger Widgets: Gmail inbox & quick posting on Blogger in two widgets.

  • Pandora Widget: Your Pandora stations one click away through your dashboard.

  • Suduku: Play Suduku on your dashboard.

  • Mono Solitaire: Play Solitaire on your dashboard.

  • BubbleTrouble: Waste your time with this game.

  • Sunlit Earth: This simple and aesthetic widget will display the sunlit region of the Earth. The widget updates once per minute.

  • The Holy Qur'an: Read and Search the Quran in Arabic, English, French and Spanish on your Dashboard!

  • ThinkFree Viewer: View ThinkFree or Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation files without having any other office applications installed. After installing the appropriate Widget simply drag and drop files from your desktop, or copy and paste the Web URL into the ThinkFree Widget.

  • Web Translator: Web Translator is a little widget that lets you translate any web page to and from ten different languages using AltaVista's Babel Fish translator and/or Google's Translation service. So when you come across a page that's written in a different language, Web Translator is the widget you need.

  • Wikipedia Widget: A Dashboard widget for browsing the free, user-created encyclopedia, Wikipedia. Search for articles and view from the Dashboard, complete with pictures and links.

  • Utility Button: UtilityButton is a small widget that gives you easy access to Mac OS X utilities that you use sometimes, but don't want cluttering up your dock. All you do is click on the button, choose the utility, and it opens.

  • Tips & Hints:Get used to keyboard shortcuts. They're very useful.
Here are some of the most useful shortcuts:-

  • F9: Expose ALL applications.

  • F10: Expose all windows of the active application.

  • F11: Show desktop.

  • F12: Dashboard.

  • Command+shift+3: Capture current screen.

  • Command+shift+4: Capture selected area of the screen.

  • Command+Q: Quit application.

  • Command+W: Close active window.

  • Command+alt+esc: Force quit.

  • Command+ "," (comma): Application preferences.

  • Command+I: Show file information.

  • Command+shift+B: Send file via Bluetooth.

  • Command+alt+ctrl+8: Invert screen colors.

  • Command+alt+8: Turn on magnification.
    ----> Command + (+/-) = zoom in/out.

  • Command+Tab: Swap between active applications.

  • Command+shift+A: Opens Applications folder.

  • Quick Hints:

  • Right-click menu: To get the right-click drop-down menu in a one button mouse or trackpad just hold down Control "ctrl" and click your mouse/trackpad button.
In recent Apple laptops (Intel Based) you can configure your trackpad to have a Right-click by placing two fingers on your trackpad + click or click on your trackpad with two fingers. This can be enabled/disabled in "System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse"

  • Scrolling using trackpad: Some new Mac users don't know this feature or were used to scrolling by moving one finger around the edges of their Windows laptop's trackpad. Simply place two fingers on the trackpad and scroll/move in your desired direction.

  • Setting default Applications for specific files: Say you have a Windows Media movie file and you want it to be opened using VLC permanently. Select the file and click "Options+I" to show its pereferences (file info) then from "Open With" tab, select the desired program and close file info.

  • That's all from me, hope you enjoy your New Smart Machines, Macintosh

Jika banyak orang berpendapat Mac kebal virus.

    Mac Virus

A file called "latestpics.tgz" was posted on a Mac rumors web site http://www.macrumors.com/ , claiming to be pictures of "MacOS X Leopard" (an upcoming version of MacOS X, aka "MacOS X 10.5"). It is actually a Trojan (or arguably, a very non-virulent virus). We'll call it "Oompa-Loompa" (aka "OSX/Oomp-A") for reasons that will become obvious.

You cannot be infected by this unless you do all of the following:
    1) Are somehow sent (via email, iChat, etc.) or download the "latestpics.tgz" file
    2) Double-click on the file to decompress it
    3) Double-click on the resulting file to "open" it

...and then for non-Admin users, it fails to infect most applications.

You cannot simply "catch" the virus. Even if someone does send you the "latestpics.tgz" file, you cannot be infected unless you unarchive the file, and then open it.

    A few important points
    1) This should probably be classified as a Trojan, not a virus, because it doesn't self-propagate externally (though it could arguably be called a very non-virulent virus)

    2) It does not exploit any security holes; rather it uses "social engineering" to get the user to launch it on their system

    3) If you're not running as an admin user, it will silently fail to infect most applications

    4) It doesn't actually do anything other than attempt to propagate itself via iChat, and then only via Bonjour! (aka "Rendezvous) -- it does not sent itself over the Internet, rather just to your local Bonjour user list

    5) It has a bug in the code that prevents it from working as intended, which has the side-effect of preventing infected applications from launching

    6) It's not particularly sophisticated

When unarchived (it is a gzip-compressed tar file), which can be done by simply double-clicking on the file, it appears to be a JPEG file because someone pasted the image of a JPEG file onto the file.
After it's been unzipped, tar will tell you there are two files in the archive:

    ._latestpics
    latestpics

...the ._latestpics is just the resource fork of the file, which contains the pasted in custom icon meant to fool people into double-clicking on it to (in theory) open the JPEG file for viewing. In actuality, double-clicking on it will launch an executable file. The file "latestpics" is actually a PowerPC-compiled executable program, with routines such as:

    _infect:
    _infectApps:
    _installHooks:
    _copySelf:

Here's what it does if a user double-clicks on the file, or otherwise executes it:

    1) It copies itself to /tmp as "latestpics"

    2) It recreates its resource fork in /tmp (with the custom icon in it) from an internally stored gzip'd copy, then sets custom icon bit for the new file in /tmp

    3) It then tar + gzips itself so a pristine copy of itself in .tgz format is left in /tmp

    4) It renames itself from "latestpics.tar.gz" to "latestpics.tgz" then deletes the copied "latestpics" executable from /tmp

    5) It extracts an Input Manager called "apphook.bundle" that is embedded in the macho executable, and copies it to /tmp

6a) If your uid = 0 (you're root), it creates /Library/InputManagers/ , deletes any existing "apphook" bundle in that folder, and copies "apphook" from /tmp to that folder

6b) If your uid != 0 (you're not root), it creates ~/Library/InputManagers/ , deletes any existing "apphook" bundle in that folder, and copies "apphook" from /tmp to that folder

    7) When any application is launched, MacOS X loads the newly installed "apphook" Input Manager automatically into its address space

8a) When an application is subsequently launched, the "apphook.bundle" Input Manager then appears to try to send the pristine "latestpics.tgz" file in /tmp to people on your buddy list via iChat (who will then presumably download the file, double-click on it, and the cycle repeats).

8b) (It looks like the author intended to get it to send the "latestpics.tgz" file out via eMail as well, but never got around to writing that code)

    9) It only sends itself to people on your local network, it cannot send itself over the Internet

    10) It then uses Spotlight to find the 4 most recently used applications on your machine that are not owned by root

    11) In an apparent "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" reference, it then checks to see if the xattr 'oompa' of the application executable is > 0... if so, it bails out, to prevent it from re-infecting an already infected application

    12) If not, it sets the xattr 'oompa' of the application executable to be 'loompa' (this does nothing, it is just a marker that it has infected this app)

    13) It then copies the application executable to its own resource fork, and replaces the application executable with the OSX/Oomp-A trojan

nb: If run via double-clicking on the file, and the user doesn't have privileges to modify an application, it silently fails.

--It has thus effectively injected its code in the host application, but it can only do so for applications that the user has write access to--

    13) When an infected application is launched from then on, the trojan code is executed, and it tries to re-infect and re-propagate itself to other applications

    14) It then does an execv on the resource fork of the executable, which is the original application, so the application launches as it normally would (in theory... see below)

    15) Due to a bug in it's code for executing the original app from it's resource fork, it is only allocating a buffer 4 bytes bigger than the path when appending "/..namedfork/rsrc" to the path, it will stop any app it infects from running. Instead of adding the length of the string, it errantly adds the length of the pointer to the string, which is always 4 bytes.

    Kingmax

Today, Kingmax split out their world smallest usb flash drive that weight at around a single gram. It looks like Kingmax scientist have lots of time to create something so small, this usb measures 34 x 12.4 x 2.2 mm, vista/OS-X friendly and come with 512MB($19), 1GB(29), 2GB($39) and 4GB($55). This usb can be our advantage and disadvantage as well, first let’s talk about it’s advantage. Well, it’s cool and come in handy as well however the disadvantage is that you can lost this handy usb drive easily. This usb is available now in your nearest tech store. nice!!!

    is that a battre???

This is what happen if Japan researcher get too passionate and invent a polymer based rechargeable battery that is flexible and transparent. These researchers from Waseda University that designed this battery announced that this battery consists of a redox-active organic polymer film around 200 nanometers thick and you only need “1 second” to full charge this battery. How efficient is this? However, these batteries can only be used in applications that require high-power capability rather than high-energy density. The sun may be the bane of basement-dwelling geeks everywhere, but Sole Mio doesn't care. Designed for office workers who have regular access to sunlight (via windows, etc.), this environmentally friendly mouse is currently undergoing testing to see if it can charge itself during normal daily activities. The designers admit its success is likely dependant upon users adjusting their mouse-using habits to include plenty of downtime in the sun for the sake of saving a few precious watts. Cubicle monkeys, this is your ticket to a window seat (or maybe a giant skylight)

    Coooool cd player

MP3s may be the wave of the future, but that doesn't mean we've had the initiative to digitize our CD collection. This Dual Music Player concept is a both a portable MP3 player and a more portable CD player. Unfolding รก la butterfly knife, the DMP concept spins your CDs while exposed to the world, but we bet the effect would look pretty wicked (especially when operating the dual purpose, self defense saw function).

    iPod Reliability Survey

    Report
This summary presents models that are significantly less or more reliable than average. Only one model, the iPod 40 GB Click Wheel, was more than two standard deviations from average.

    Average failures: 13.7%
    Standard Deviation: 7.54

Models with failures > 1 STDEV *above* average:

    Model Failures
    iPod 10 GB Scroll Wheel 21.5% stdev+0.2
    iPod 5 GB Scroll Wheel 23.0% stdev+1.7
    iPod 30 GB Dock Connector 24.0% stdev+2.7
    iPod 40 GB Click Wheel 29.9% stdev+8.6

Models with failures > 1 STDEV *below* average:

    Model Failures
    iPod Nano 2 GB 2.8% stdev-4.8
    iPod 60 GB Video 3.2% stdev-4.4
    iPod Nano 4 GB 4.2% stdev-3.3
    iPod 30 GB Video 4.3% stdev-3.3
    iPod Mini 6 GB (Feb05) 6.4% stdev-1.2
    iPod with Color 20 GB 6.6% stdev-1.0
    iPod Shuffle 512 MB 7.0% stdev-0.5

In a single survey sample of a population, only results greater than one standard deviation from norm can be considered relevant. Across multiple surveys of a population, results less than a standard deviation may be relevant if they show a certain consistency. Since we have run only this one survey, we can only speak with confidence of the above models. However, we present the following tables and charts with more detailed information:

    Survey Data

    Conclusions
The 40 GB Click Wheel iPod appears to have been a lemon. With a failure rate more than two standard deviations above average, it's the indisputable problem child of the iPod family. Many readers reported going through three to five of them before the 1 year warranty expired and Apple refused further replacements. Not all 40 GB iPods were so unreliable -- the 40 GB Photo was near the average failure rate -- so we don't know quite what the problem was. However, we think it's telling that Apple currently offers a 30 GB and not a 40 GB iPod.
The current video iPods appear to be quite reliable, although they also haven't been out long. The previous "4G" Color and Photo iPods appear to be more reliable than their predecessors, and we hope this is a trend. The iPod Nanos seem to be doing well, as we would expect from a device with solid state storage, although there was an Apple-acknowledged defect early on.
There are a remarkable number of original 5 GB iPods still in service today. We found that many owners reported a battery failure but replaced the battery and continued using their iPod. While failure numbers for this original model look quite high, we must note that many of those "failed" iPods are still working and are in use.

    Problem areas
Apple's biggest problem appears to be iPod's non-removable battery. As a battery is used, it slowly degrades, providing less charge capacity. Like laptops, the more you use it, the faster you use it up. A good battery will last for a thousand cycles or more, but it won't last long at the end. Under heavy use, an iPod's battery can run through a hundreds of cycles in a year. We don't really know how "good" Apple's batteries are; some owners of five year old iPods report getting almost half their original battery life, while owners of more recent iPods report battery lives of an hour or less. Clearly, your milage may vary.
Thanks in part to a class action suit, Apple now offers a battery replacement service for iPods. For $59 (originally $99) this program covers round-trip shipping, battery and bench time. Given that some iPods are glued shut and require gentle heat to open, this seems like a very reasonable charge. Confident do-it-yourselfers can obtain an iPod battery from several reputable companies for less than $40 (plus shipping) and carry out the replacement themselves. (For comparison, a battery for a Canon PowerShot Digital Elph is $50, and the Canon Digital Rebel battery is $70. PowerBook and iBook batteries are $129 or more.)
Of course, an easily-removable battery would make all of this moot, at some cost to iPod's size and weight. (We're not holding our breath.)
Hard drive failure accounts for as much as half of reported problems. Carrying around a device powered by a delicate spinning drive does seem like a recipe for disaster; sometimes we find it amazing that hard drive based music players outlast their warranty at all. The newer flash-based iPod Shuffle and Nano have no drives and show markedly better reliability (Nano's scratch-prone facing aside). Active users should strongly consider Shuffle and Nano.
Early iPods appeared to suffer from damaged FireWire ports with some regularity. Such reports diminished after the introduction of the iPod with Dock connector. Aside from the advantages of a high-density, multipurpose interconnect - capable of handling Firewire, USB, audio, remote controls and power - Apple's Dock port appears to have increased the effective durability of iPods.

    salam,

    Robert

    Apple Introduced New iMac

    Apple Introduced New iMac

Presenting at an event for invited media members in Cupertino, California, Steve Jobs today
introduced Apple's latest iMac models. As expected, the thinner new case is made of aluminum, and the 17-inch model has been dropped, while Apple also debuted a thin, new Bluetooth 2.0 wireless keyboard
(with special controls for brightness, Expose, Dashboard and media control).

Pricing starts at $1199 for the low-end, 20-inch model, with the new 24-inch iMac priced at $1799, and they're said to be available today, though the Apple Store lists "3-5 business days" for availability.

The new 20- and 24-inch displays are glossy, driven by ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics circuits with 256 MB of video RAM in the middle ($1499) and top models, ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB of video RAM in the $1199 model.
Along with the usual Gigabit Ethernet and USB 2.0 ports, both new iMacs include FireWire 800 ports. Their Core 2 Duo processors range from 2.0 to 2.4 GHz and support up to 4 GB of memory. There's also the option of a 2.8-GHz Core 2 Extreme processor in a $2299 24-inch model.

Jobs also announced iLife '08, with major enhancements for iPhoto, including "Events" that help automatically organize your images, plus a feature that allows iPhones to email photos to a ".Mac" web gallery. It's priced at $79 and bundled with new Macs, available today, according to Apple.

iMovie gets a major overhaul with AVCHD support and export to YouTube, iPod/iPhone, Apple TV and ".Mac" web pages.

Apple's $99.99 ".Mac" service [$79.99 at Amazon] expands to 10 GB of standard storage and integrates with the new features of iLife '08 (e.g. Web Galleries of photos and movies, iPhone picture uploads).

Check out this new nokia N800
Any way you look at it, you’ll think this is the Nokia N800 but NOW. A Chinese company named “XIACHAO” has ripped the design and made a GPS device running on Windows CE. Interesting thing is that they are calling it a UMPC named “UMPC001″(they must got creative at least with the name). Take a look at this. www.onlyumpc.com
